Become a Pro(ficient) Writer

through highly effective techniques

including the critical application of AI

(Adaptable to different grades)

This fun ongoing course will focus on improving the actual writing of the students in a structured, practical, and creative way. The course will be based on the amazing book Be a Better Writer, which is aimed at anyone ages ten to sixteen. The book is the recipient of the "Parents' Choice Recommended" Award.

The following testimonial taken from the book sums it up nicely:

"An educator for 30 years, I've been looking for that one writing book which genuinely crosses borders and ages. Be a Better Writer is it. Students see immediate change in their writing and feel empowered by setting goals based on their own learning needs. The message contained in this book is that we are all capable of being better writers." - Nina Davis, author of Teaching and Learning in the Australian Primary Classroom

Students will learn how to come up with original topics and ideas, how to organize and structure their writing including sentence structure and proper punctuation, all the while learning how to develop a unique voice and add strong word choices to their writing.

We will use real life creative writing examples during classes to garner the interest of students and inspire them. This way they can experience how professional writers use the power of language to their advantage but also learn that even the professional writers are not perfect.

The overall goal is to combine the Book's contents with great online resources and practical, creative writing examples. We encourage students to also use their own favorite books or reading material to understand the content they have learned.

For this class, we will use AI to support students' writing, but we will also make them aware to inspect AI generated output carefully and not solely rely on it.

Our founder uses the material in combination with her knowledge, practices, and content ideas, as she has taught this class successfully in Canada and China. After each lesson, students will receive homework, to reinforce learned content and enable students to write a step-by-step text within the format and about a topic of their choice.
